Senior Data Engineer

Are you ready to help our Data team grow? Do you want to shape and expand our data infrastructure? Then join our fast-growing scale-up as our new, full-time Data Engineer in Amsterdam!

The Job

As a data-driven company, ParkBee uses many kinds of data from a wide variety of sources and technologies, both internal and external. We need someone to fully take charge of our data infrastructure - implement new technology stacks, construct and maintain robust data pipelines, pre-process and enrich data, and deliver reliable data streams. This involves connecting to various types of databases, backends, APIs, platforms, websites, and so on. You will liaise with data scientists, BI developers, and data analysts to gather requirements, and will work with the support of our backend Dev and DevOps teams, to build scalable and maintainable solutions. You will have an appropriate budget, and the mandate to make your own decisions - including using third party tools where appropriate, without needing to reinvent the wheel - and potentially to grow your team further in the future.

Who You Are

You’ll need to be comfortable with all kinds of data structures and data flows, and the technologies on which they can be transmitted, stored, and used. You are enthusiastic about experimenting and trying out new tools and tech, and are driven to understand the best and cleanest way to solve a problem - whether it is the brand new implementation of a shiny tool or platform, or the tried-and-tested stable choice. You will have tried out modern tools like Kafka, Airflow, dbt, Lambda, Snowflake… or perhaps some completely different things.

While this is not a DevOps position, knowledge of cloud technologies and deployment of solutions would certainly be appreciated. For example, you might help the Data Team effectively deploy Machine Learning solutions on our existing cloud infrastructure.

Lastly, being at the heart of many interconnected systems, you must be able to work independently and coordinate efficiently with all of your tech colleagues. You are a great communicator. At the end of the day, you’ll enjoy seeing the real results of all your hard work, when your data streams are being used in real analysis, and live customer-facing projects.

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in any technical field, and / or strong evidence of practical experience, such as 3+ years of data engineering in a business environment, ideally in a modern, agile, tech company;
  • Have experience with various technologies, such as SQL and NoSQL databases, ETL tools & data pipelines, APIs, events streams, and so on (for example, MongoDB, Snowflake, Apache Kafka, Airflow, dbt, AWS Lambda…);
  • Be comfortable processing and preparing raw data according to business requirements (for example, ingesting static datasets, time-series data, and relational or non-relational data into a data warehouse)
  • Have coding experience with general-purpose languages such as Python, C#, or similar languages (a plus);
  • Have some basic cloud deployment experience with AWS and Azure or similar platforms, and tools such as Docker and Kubernetes (a plus).

What you’ll get in return

Besides the fact that you would be given the opportunity to make a huge impact on the use of mobility in cities, we would also offer you a platform for growth! ParkBee readily encourages you to tweak, hack, and break on our Innovation Fridays 🚀. Meaning you would have the opportunity to be innovative every Friday and show us potential areas we can grow in! Our philosophy is to invest in our tech team and they help ParkBee grow in return. Furthermore:

  • An allocated personal development budget which you can use to follow courses or go to conferences;
  • The opportunity to shape our new data team and structure;
  • An ambitious, skilled, and hardworking team with which we have online events. You can log out of work, relax, and focus on your health;
  • Visa support in case you’re international;
  • Virtual shares for full-time employees;
  • An inspiring office in the lovely city of Amsterdam, sharing with top scale-ups such as Uber, Amazon, and Ebay;
  • A competitive salary range based on profession and experience.
